Callooa Garden

Set just above Sydney Harbour in Darling Point, Callooa is a landmark Victorian Gothic residence. Originally built in the 1850’s and shaped over time by a succession of owners and designers, the project presented a rare opportunity to both honour its past and reimagine its future.

A structured framework of lawn, clipped hedging and mature trees anchors the site, while layered planting introduces softness, texture and seasonality. The verandah, which wraps the house, plays a central role in mediating between architecture and landscape. Decorative latticework and climbing plants soften its edges and create a seamless transition between indoors and out.

Outdoor rooms are positioned within the garden to support both quiet retreat and informal entertaining, while the terraces are oriented to capture expansive harbour views. The result is a garden that feels established and enduring, grounded in its setting, yet quietly contemporary in its execution.
